Judge cautions Akua Donkor to comport herself in court
Madam Akua Donkor, the Leader, and founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) was on Tuesday warned by an Accra Circuit Court not to be
infuriated by the cross examination of defense counsel in robbery case before it.
The court said that Madam Akua Donkor could be provoked by some of the questions and responses but that shouldn't give her permission to misbehave in the courtroom. The trial judge, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh said even the court sometimes have to tolerate the responses.
“when you have finish speaking, you have to keep quiet and observe the proceedings,” the judge said. The Ghana Freedom Party flag bearer complained during cross examination by Detective Jonas Gebe over some funds allegedly retrieved from the accused persons.
The accused persons are Barnabas Kayase, her driver and secretary for the party; Yakubu Yusif, trader and Central Regional Chairman of the party; Opoku Agyemang, trader, and Abdul Razak Shaibu, a member of a GPRTU task force.
Two others people namely, Joe and Nuamah aka Lion, are currently nowhere to be found but the accused persons are on remand. Continuing with the evidence, Sgt Gebe told the court that the Police retrieved a huge amount of $ 4,900.
Sergeant Gebe said the money was found on Shaibu together with other military camouflage uniforms, SSNIT and DVLA documents belonging to Madam Donkor. The witness also said the Police also gave Madam Akua Donkor a Medical form to seek medical attention from any hospital because she was brutally assaulted by the robbers.
According to her, she returned the medical form given to her by the Police. Answering questions during cross-examination by Vincent Aikins, counsel for Mr. Agyemang and Shaibu, Detective Sergeant Gebe said this just after the matter was referred to him to investigate and immediately he and 3 other police officers went to the crime scene.
According to Detective Gebe, it was revealed at the crime scene that he only got to know that Kayase made a call to Agyemang and obtained their whereabouts.
The witness, therefore, explained to the court that the said phone call was made at around 1:30 am and the robbery took place at about 3:00-3:30 am.
According to a statement from the witness, the said call was also put on “loudspeaker” but Madam Akua Donkor wasn't aware that she was going to be robbed by the accused persons.
He said the Police went to Mr. Agyemang house of in Taifa Accra to search his room. Detective Gebe said there were 3 people in complainant’s vehicle when the incident happened.
It was reported that on December 30, 2016, the accused persons attacked and robbed Madam Akua Donkor at gunpoint of her $30,000 whiles she was on her way to the Airport to catch a flight to Holland.
