The Fight against galamsey is not xenophobic attack on foreigners immigrants - Akufo-Addo

The President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo has said the government's recent decision to end the illegal mining or galamsey is in no way an act of xenophobia. 

According to
the Nana Akufo Addo, the policies in motion to end the illegal mining menace on the country not in any way an attack on foreign nationals, but is our desire to restore the damaged natural resources of our country. 

According to report by Graphic Online communication group, Nana Addo said this when addressing a gathering of the "media coalition against galamsey", where he stated that, "It is never a xenophobic attack intended for Chinese nationals". 

We're trying our possible best to protect the integrity of the environment and it is those engaged in illegal mining that we're after. We will keep on the fight until we achieve victory. " The President noted that the galamsey activity was being funded by certain individuals, and it was crucial that we all come together to work till we get the antidote to this menace. 

He noted that it has become necessary to involve  the international community in our fight against illegal mining, He added that;

"We're not against Chinese Nationals or any other country but what we're all seeking is to protect the integrity of our available natural resource and our environment to secure a better future for our unborn generation." 

The media Coalition Against Galamsey, which is a collaborative effort by state owned media houses    and with independent national interest groups and other civil societies, begun the campaign to end illegal mining, and find and push for the prosecution of individuals behind this activity with their own resources. 

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo Addo has emphasized the need to provide an alternative source of livelihoods for the illegal miners, with a promise that his government is working hard to create an economy full of opportunities that give new chances to these miners.
