    Eleven crucial matches that decided the English Premier League season


    Though the premier league season has not completely drawn to a close, the League has a champion and the bottom three doomed to relegation are
    also set, but there is still a little bit of drama left with 2 Champions League spots still up for grabs.

    How did the league get here? What were some of the most important matches that took us to this point in the league season?


    September 24th: Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea Fc

    In the early part of the season, Antonio Conte was still easing himself into the Chelsea hot seat. Coming from a loss to Liverpool in their 6th match of the premier league season, Antonio Conte stuck with former manager Mourinho's preferred 4-4-2 formation but he promptly saw his team crashed in the mouth by Arsenal.

    Then Antonio Conte decided it was time to unveil the 3-4-2-1 formation that eventually carried them to win the EPL title. And the rest, as they say, is history.


    October 15th: Crystal Palace Fc 0-1 West Ham 

     Lanzini's 19th minute goal made the difference for the Hammers as they beat Palace after 5 matches without a win to open the league season.

    Benteke missed a penalty for Crystal Palace did not only save three points for the Hammers -- it probably saved their season.

    Without the win, there is almost no doubt West Ham manager Slaven Bilic would have been fired, and the team possibly locked in a strange relegation battle for the rest of the league season.


    October 23rd: Chelsea 4-0 Man Utd 

    The Gunners match marked the day Conte decided to change the way the Chelsea team lined up, but the Manchester United match truly confirmed it.




    November 26th: Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham 

    If it was not confirmed against Manchester United, Chelsea sent a strong signal on their title credentials against Spurs.

    At the time, the Blues team were within a point of their nearest rival and also hosted their London neighbors Tottenham Hotspurs in what was their toughest challenge yet in the season.

    But they passed the test with ease.


    December 3rd: Manchester City 1-3 Chelsea 

    Coming off the match against Tottenham Hotspurs, Chelsea traveled all the way to Manchester for yet another crucial encounters during their journey for the Premier League title.

    They stormed the Etihad Stadium, scoring  3-1 in an away win against Guardiola's squad, effectively ending their challenge for the title and establishing themselves as the team to beat in the 2016/17 league season.



    December 4th: Bournemouth 4-3 Liverpool 

    After Chelsea had an emphatic win over Manchester City, all Liverpool had to do was beat new entrant Bournemouth to keep pace.

    But way easier said than done, more especially in Liverpool case. They failed to win by losing 4-3 in a wild match that fully revealed Jurgen Klopp team's inability to overcome the little teams in the EPL.


    February 12th: Swansea 2-0 Leicester 

    Leicester City's, Claudio Ranieri last Premier League match on the bench for the defending champions.

    It was a crucial 3 points for struggling Swansea, but it all confirmed Claudio Ranieri's demise. Very sad but was necessary!


    April 30th: Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 Arsenal 

    The celebration of St. Totteringham's Day came to an end on 30th April 2017. And for the first time in decades, Tottenham Hwasurs were assured that they would finish ahead of Arsene Wenger's team on the league table and Spurs really cemented the second place ahead of Arsenal for the first time in more than 50 years.


    May 5th: West Ham United 1-0 Tottenham 

    After their win against Arsenal, Spurs only needed a win against West Ham United to have even a prayer of chasing Chelsea for the title.

    Unfortunately, they failed to do that and Manuel Lanzini's goal was the one to confirm the dream would fail.


    May 6th: Swansea City 1-0 Everton 

    Fernando Llorente came to the rescue! With Swansea City facing relegation threats in the face, the Spanish striker single goal was just good enough to take them past Everton and ensure they will be in the EPL for at least one more year.


    May 21st: Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City's had a last chance to qualify for Uefa CL

    On the final day of the 2016/17 premier league season, Arsenal vs. Everton, Liverpool vs. Middlesbrough and Man. City vs Watford all have the equal opportunity to confirm a place in the top four for Uefa CL next season.
