    Police brutalities are threat to the rule of law – GBA





    The Ghana Bar Association has described recent police brutalities as a threat to rule of law and has called on the police administration to ensure that perpetrators of these brutalities are
    brought to book.
    There have been issues of police brutalities over the past few months with some of these acts resulting in the death of innocent Ghanaians.


    In a statement signed by GBA President, Benson Nutsukpui and Secretary, Justin Amenuvor, they condemned the latest brutality, calling it as a despicable and disgraceful act.

    The release comes on the back of a video in which a police officer is seen beating a woman who had visited Midland Savings and Loans in Accra to withdraw her savings.
    “The conduct of the police officer is appalling, despicable and disgraceful,” the statement said, “The Bar condemns in no uncertain terms the reprehensible and cruel conduct of the police officer.”
    The Ghana Bar Association further chastised officers of the Police Service engaged in acts of brutality for reneging on their duty to ensure the safety of civilians in the country.
    According to the GBA, the leadership of the Police Service must ensure that persons found culpable do not escape the law and ensure that victims of these brutal acts receive justice.
    Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has released a statement saying the officer in the video assaulting the woman at the Midland Savings and Loans company has been interdicted.
    The said officer, Lance Corporal Godzi Frederick Amanor is currently in police custody, and he is being processed for court, the police said


    According to the Police Administration, investigations have also been initiated into the conduct of officials of the Midland Savings and Loans Company.
    The police said internal disciplinary actions will also be taken against Lance Corporal Amanor.
