    Do you believe in superstition? check this out!!

    Superstition is described as the irrational belief that certain situations or objects exist, may provide safety or cause misfortune
    etc.

    For example, there are people who believe that walking under a ladder is a sign of bad luck; many people also attribute misfortune to a spilled salt or black cat and others will also avoid any activity that falls on Friday the 13th or any other day which is deemed a bad omen.

    Superstitious beliefs sometimes seem harmless but they also have their drawbacks among them include:

    1. It adds unnecessary burden because there is no evidence whatsoever behind those beliefs, whether they work for better or for worse.

    2. Superstitious beliefs also interfere with achieving goals: for instance, a superstitious person will be forced to postpone or cancel an important journey or trip when he/she sees certain signs or when the trip date falls on certain dates. Some also refuse to accept hotel reservations because it is on the 13th floor or 4th floor according to the tradition of the Japanese.

    3. Superstitious beliefs can also cause anxiety: a clear example is when a good-luck charm is not available especially during examinations, "if I forget my amulet, then am in trouble" Or what might happen when u suddenly wake up in the middle of the night just to hear you strange noise outside.

    4. It also complicates other disorders: there are people who fear (phobia) to travel by air that uses these methods. when they finally realize that these methods are not working for them, they go to a psychologist and finds out their problem has been worse and that they were suffering unnecessarily.

    To overcome superstitious beliefs. one needs to;

    1. Use objective data - You need to examine statistical data just as the Insurance Companies use when trying to discover true risk.

    2. You have to apply external, rational strategies- To avoid an accident, do not put your trust in a good-luck charm or amulet but rather engage yourself in preventive measures.

    Eg. check your engine, check traffic density, listen to the meteorological reports. when this is done, you will be able to successfully plan a good trip.

    3. You need to apply personal rational strategies - In order to get a good score in an examination, it is prudent to prepare yourself conscientiously. study well and use reliable understanding effective techniques to memorize.

    4. Test Superstition - You have to eliminate superstition and observe the results. When you discover that there's lack of relationship between the results and superstition, you then have to free yourself from the unnecessary burden call superstition.

    5. You should also substitute superstition by faith - by believing in God's power and unconditional love for his people is also another source of personal safety.
