Donald Trump takes office as 45th President of the United State amid protests
Washington - Donald Trump took power as the 45th President of the USA on Friday and pledged to end "American Carnage" of social and economic troubles in an inaugural address that was mainly a populist and
nationalist rallying cry.
Washington began their celebrations on Thursday night, with dinners and the operation “Make America Great Again” concert.
Trump takes office as the 45th President of the United States of America. He will be sworn into office by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts.
Donald Trump will then give his inaugural address from the steps of the Capitol. He said:
"From this moment on, it is going to be America First," the Republican party told thousands of people gathered on the grounds of the National Mall as he took over power from Democrat Barack Obama.
There will be a break as Trump and his vice president Mike Pence will have dinner with Congress before the Trump and Pence families take the usual 2.4km walk down Pennsylvania Avenue straight to the White House.
However, there are protests ongoing against the Trump presidency, both in Washington DC and around the world.
