Olympics : Rio still not ready with Friday's opening ceremony just 4 days away

CHAOS: Rio is still not ready for the Olympics

Rio Olympic chiefs are still battling to make sure Rio is set for the competition some few days before opening ceremony. Some
amazing pictures show that Brazilian streets littered with rubbish and workers frantically putting up Olympic rings.

Organisers of the competition have faced a lot of problems in the build up – and at the weekend a main ramp collapsed at the sailing venue Marina da Gloria.

AGAINST THE CLOCK: The games start this Friday

Mario Cilenti, the game's boss  was reportedly sacked over chaos in the “unsafe” condition of the  olympic village which included leaky roof, faulty electrical wiring and also stolen beds.

A new metro system for the competition will also not operate fully until Thursday – and only those with Olympic ticket will have the permission to ride it, whiles the locals are barred.

The Marketing specialist,  Prof. Ricardo Teixeira said that: “There is a high tendency in Brazil to reserve a lot for the last minute, to improvise and just get things done.”

Competition officials which include football legend Pele, insist that everything will be ready for the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, golf superstar, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, who swerved the games over fears and panic of contracting the Zika virus, surprisingly have the virus at their doorstep in Florida in the United States where they both live.

Rory McIlroy, 27, who has planned on starting a new family with his fiancée Erica, made this confirmation in June that he would be pulling out of the Rio Olympics games.

Rory said: “my health and that of my family’s come before anything else.”

Some athletes have planned to leave their families at home for fear of the virus, including long jump hero Rutherford, 29, and 42-year old runner Jo Pavey.

But experts say Zika has been “overcome” in Brazil and will not affect the Games.

Rio health secretary Daniel Soranz claimed cases have “dipped significantly” recently.
